Junk Food Can Cost You a Long Term Health Battle

Sep 20, 2021 Info

Food is any material consumed to supply nutrition to an organism for a specific amount of time. Generally speaking food is generally of animal, plant or fungi origin, and is composed of necessary nutrients, including vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, sugars, or other micro-nutrients. In today’s contemporary society, there are many commercially processed food products and foods available in the market that are made of such ingredients that do not necessarily provide complete nutrition to the person consuming the food. These food products are generally termed junk food by many people including doctors, but this term should be changed to something more accurate like junk foods.

Junk foods include all those food items that are consumed in large quantities but have no nutritional value whatsoever. They may contain a small amount of carbohydrates, calories, fat and protein but are devoid of any nutrients. It is advisable to see food which are devoid of all nutrients as poor quality and bad-for-your-health ones, but the problem lies in the way these poor quality items are consumed over a long period of time.

Breastmilk is a good example of food that is devoid of nutrients but is consumed over a long period of time over several days. The breastmilk consumed during a study session will consist of both casein and lactose and will therefore have more calories and fewer nutrients than fresh milk that are not heated up. A study session can be compared with a picnic on a hot summer day when everyone eat an amount of grilled chicken that is much higher than what they would have eaten at home in the kitchen over a long study session. This illustrates that over a period of time, even if the same quantity of food is consumed, the amount of nutrients consumed is different and hence the need to change one’s diet if you want to enjoy a healthy life.
