The Legality of Online Gambling

Info Feb 7, 2022

If you want to try online gambling, you’ll need to have a computer with an internet connection and a secure browser. Most sites use a PC running Windows to operate, but some have recently added Mac compatibility. Whether you use a Mac or a PC, there are plenty of sites available that allow you to deposit and play. If you prefer mobile gaming, you can also find a casino site on your smartphone. You can choose from a variety of games to play.

While there are a variety of legalities surrounding online gambling, most countries do not prohibit the activity. Several US states and Canadian provinces, the European Union, and several nations in the Caribbean have legalized it. In most cases, providers of online gambling must obtain licensing from regulatory bodies. In the United Kingdom, this is the United Kingdom Gambling Commission, while in Pennsylvania, the Gaming Control Board regulates internet gambling sites. However, it is not yet clear whether the UIGEA will be implemented in all jurisdictions.

High school aged males were the most likely to access online gambling websites, with a growth rate of two to six percent. According to a Frost & Sullivan report, over five30,000 high school students accessed these sites monthly. While females were more likely to gamble than males, it was not uncommon for females to wager on sports games, even if it was illegal. In the US, however, the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act (IGPA) had been introduced in the US Senate in 1999.
