Types of Food That Are Part of a Human Diet

The word food can mean different things to different people. To many people the definition of food is something that sustains you, provides you with pleasure, gives pleasure, makes you feel good and provides for your needs. For other people’s food is something that is hard to digest, contains excess calories, is high in fat and sugar and causes disease. Food has a number of different functions in our body; it is the main source of energy for our body and most important of all it is the primary food source for the animals we eat. A proper diet can not only improve our health but also increase our longevity and help protect us against disease. So what are the foods that we should be eating?

The three main food groups are carbohydrates, protein and fat. Carbohydrates are any material formed by plants or animals that is used as the basic source of energy. Food that is made from carbohydrates can be of plant, animal, or fungi origin, and contain necessary nutrients, including carbohydrates, protein, vitamins, or iron. This type of food is called carbohydrates, which includes bread, pasta, cereals, rice, pasta, potatoes, vegetables, fruits, honey, etc., while proteins are any material from animals that consist of amino acids, such as meat, milk, fish, poultry, eggs and poultry eggs, and can be either plant or animal origin.

Fats are different than carbohydrates or proteins because they are fattening rather than energy rich. Fats can be unsaturated or saturated fats, and come from a variety of sources. Some of the fat types that our bodies need including omega-3 fatty acids found in some fish and nuts, flaxseed oil, avocado, palm oil, cottonseed oil, and palm oil seized fats from fresh animals, seeds, and nuts; monounsaturated fat found in some fruits and vegetables and oily fish; trans-fatty acids found in margarine, butter, cooking oils, and cookies; and cholesterol, which comes from egg yolks, other fats, and other sources. Each of these different food types provide different levels of nutrition.
