The History of Fashion
Fashion is a unique form of autonomy and self-direction at a certain time and location and in a certain context, of dressing, footwear, jewelry, makeup, hairstyles, and appearance. The word itself indicates a style defined by the fashion industry, that as what is currently fashionable. With changing social mores, fashion changes often making it more acceptable for people from different walks of life to wear fashionable clothing. Even within a single generation, changes in fashion are often noted as certain fashions become obsolete or just not worn anymore. As a result, it is important to consider the influence fashion has had on others whether it be a common man or a celebrity.
Fashion is always an expression of personal beliefs, desires, and taste and can be as formal or casual as one wishes to make it. Fashion is also a major deciding factor in the choice of clothing a person will choose to put on for themselves. It’s not uncommon for the most famous and richest people in the world to wear high fashion, but for the average person, even the most basic and functional fashion is still considered fashionable. One of the main reasons fashion must be chosen is that it accentuates or detracts from the characteristics of the human body, as well as the personality of the individual wearing the garment.
A major portion of society considers fashion to be degrading and objectifying, and this is why most people are against it, but the fashion industry has created some of the most unique and interesting styles ever seen. Most people have their own opinion of what is considered to be sexy or unacceptable, and regardless of how many styles exist without end, these opinions will always be present. Even though some people are against fashion, as something it influences and changes the way people dress, there will always be a place for it because fashion is truly universal. If everyone knew exactly what was happening in the fashion world, we would probably never have so many different and interesting styles to choose from.
